Valerie Syposz is a Canadian printmaker creating work using relief print and lithography, with a strong emphasis on hand printed techniques. Syposz starts her prints from figurative drawings, transformed first through sketches, and again during the platemaking and printing process to focus on the inner world of those portrayed. The result is a bizarre series of portraits that reflect on existence and perceptions of self.
Valerie Syposz (born Ottawa, Canada) obtained a BFA from Concordia University in 2008. In 2010, she was selected as a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholar and moved to Tokyo. She received an MFA in printmaking from Tokyo University of the Arts, focusing on ball grain plate lithography. Valerie continues to utilize printmaking in its many forms as her means of expression, most often with hand printed techniques. She has held solo exhibitions in Canada, Japan, Australia, Norway and Korea and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and artists in residence programs around the world.
